Busily Being Beige
By Nancy Wayman Deutsch
busily being beige
hiding all jollity
or slowly simmering rage.
I'm blending into the backdrop
so nobody knows I'm there
wearing a coat of mousy hue
pretending not to care.
But underneath, Crayola bright
A box of fifty-two
ranging sunshine yellow
to richest cobalt blue.
Laughing under the box lid
while hiding, in plain sight
maybe tomorrow, cinnabar red
just busily beige tonight.
